'Black Magic Woman' Antique 15-Carat Gold and Bullseye Agate Locket Pendant

A superb example of Victorian craftsmanship, this bullseye agate pendant locket is a real statement piece!  The large central stone is surrounded by a cluster of eight smaller banded agates all solidly set in 15-carat gold.  On the reverse is a clear glass panel locket compartment that opens up to a yellow silken backing with space for a photo or special momento.  The banding glows like fire against the deep black and its large size makes for the most striking statement piece.

Banded agate builds its rings layer upon layer as mineral water settles over centuries, so no two stones ever band quite alike.  In Victorian times, these stones were worn as symbols of protection, remembrance, and eternal love.  

Condition: Excellent antique condition with normal wear consistent with age and use. Condition note: Retains the original lock of hair in the rear compartment, as is traditional for keepsake lockets of this period.  Sold as found.  Collectors of antique sentimental jewellery often prize this originality.
