Dating from the early 19th Century circa 1820, these exquisite Georgian paste earrings are historical treasures. Each earring comprises one round and one pear-shaped white paste stones joined together so the bottoms dangle daintily. The stones are mounted over closed foil back 'pie crust' settings, as was customary during Georgian times, giving them a radiating energy through reflection. Gold ear wires and dish backs complete the set.
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, paste gems could command as much - or more - than their natural counterparts, as the technology was new and the stones could be created with ideal colours and completely free from inclusions. Today, Georgian paste jewellery is highly prised by antique jewellery collectors for its historical significance and distinct craftsmanship.
