Dating to the Georgian era, this shimmering bar brooch is set with bright old-cut paste stones in 9-carat gold coronet settings. Each stone is held in a closed cup with foil interlayer, a technique used by Georgian jewellers to maximise brilliance and depth before the advent of modern faceting. The foil backing catches the light and throws it back through the paste with a warm, candlelit glow that's become one of the most sought-after qualities in antique jewellery today.
True to its age, this brooch is fitted with a simple straight pin and hook catch, a hallmark of pre-Victorian and early Victorian construction, and a nice period-correct detail for anyone collecting by era.
The brooch comes complete with its original fitted case, stamped for W.L. Parkhouse, Goldsmith, of 10 Above Bar, Southampton, a wonderful touch of provenance that anchors the piece to a specific time and place. The faded rose velvet and hand-inked lettering inside the lid are as much a part of its story as the brooch itself.
Wear with joy as intended, pinned at the collar or neckline to catching candle or lamplight exactly as it would have two centuries ago. This is a piece that carries genuine history in its scale, its setting technique, and its beautifully preserved presentation box.
